In 1905, during the Third Centenary of the original publication of the Quixote, was published in Figueras the book Célebres aventuras de don Quijote, El Caballero de la Triste Figura. Containing a large number of beautiful illustrations by Brinsley Le Fanu, it was a children’s version of the novel by Miguel de Cervantes. Edited by the Sociedad española de tratados religiosos y libros, this publication generated an intense and curious controversy and was promoted by the active Anglican community of the town that had previously translated and adapted an English version, The wonderful adventures of Don Quixote, the knight of the sorrowful countenance, published in London in 1902.
