“Gorgeous feet that seemed no less than two pieces of white crystal”: sensuality of the human person in the Quixote

Departing from beautiful feet «that seemed no less than two pieces of white crystal» in the Dorotea episode (Don Quixote), this essay analyzes the deeper meaning of these crystalline feet and what sensuality means in Cervantes’ masterpiece. In this episode of the beautiful Dorotea, and then in others, particularly that of Ana Félix, we discover that beauty and sensuality do not distinguish based on gender, and that Cervantes is four hundred years ahead in the exposition and treatment of the topics of sexual ambiguity and transgender. Physical attraction is the result of the contemplation of beauty and of what is perceived as sensual, regardless of the sex or gender of the person being contemplated. This analysis of the text sheds new light on a seldom studied topic.
